Irresponsible AI or Irresponsible People?

Are the issues we face with AI today primarily a result of the technology itself, or do they stem from the actions and decisions of the people behind these systems?

To understand this AI Dilemma, an investigation into the complex interaction between artificial intelligence technology and human responsibility must be done.

In this conference we will highlight on examining not just the technology itself, but the human practices and decisions that shape its development and deployment.

  • “It is always a joy to attend the WiDS events, and inspiring to hear from others and see the engagement in the discussions that follow. For Oda, it has also been a great arena to present projects and concepts, get feedback and interest for a talented and diverse group of people. WiDS has helped in creating networks with peers across industries that is valuable in developing how we create value from data, also outside the events. We look forward to continuing to attend and contribute to this community.”

Nina Walberg, Head of Data & Insight, Oda

  • “As both a sponsor and participant in the Women in Data Science conference, I was humbled to be surrounded by so many brilliant minds in the field. There was a wide variety of industries represented and experiences to be shared with the community. It was an excellent opportunity to engage with and learn from one another. I look forward to next year!”

Kelsey Ozuna, Product Manager, Klaveness Digital

  • “Spoor had a fantastic day hosting a workshop on computer vision to an engaged and enthusiastic group. For us, it presented a great opportunity to connect with a diverse group of new people, communicate about our tech in an easy to understand way, and attend an event that brought our team closer together with a number of intersting topics to discuss. We look forward to continuing to support WiDS community.”

2024 will be the eight annual event hosted in Oslo with significant and continual growth - from 40 attendees in 2017 to 150 attendees in 2019 and 650 attendees in 2020 and 2021 (digital), and 220 attendees in 2023. The attendees have diverse backgrounds coming from academia and a variety of industries with a significant international presence - in 2021, we had nearly 100 unique nationalities registered!

WiDS is a non-profit organization created by and for the data science community. This wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of our sponsors and partners, whom we are extremely grateful for.
